Hautelinks: Week of 1/6/11

Hautelinks - your weekly source for the best of the web

It’s the first Hautelinks list of 2011! (And yes, I totally wrote “Week of 1/6/10″ for the title before I corrected myself.) Let’s kick off two-thousand-and-heaven the right way with some internet deliciousness. Hope you’re ready, it’s another long list this week!

* Laver’s Law of Fashion is totally interesting and will make you think. I’ve seen stuff like this before, but have never seen it laid out this way. Really puts all the trends (and people’s opinions of them) into perspective!

* If you’re at all interested in what goes on in the world of styling, you HAVE to read Sally’s Styling Seminary: The Unspoken Rules of Styling. Seriously, SO good!

* Ever dropped your favorite eyeshadow and had to throw away the crumbly pieces? Next time, save your cash and fix it! Here’s a guide to repairing a shattered eyeshadow.

* CollegeCandy poses an interesting question: Is community college the better option? The facts will shock you.

* Refinery 29 counts down what they think will be the biggest fashion trends of 2011. Like or dislike?

* Also, see 11 Hot Trends to Try in 2011 for some more fun ideas, and Because I’m Addicted’s 2011 Trend Report for even more fun looks to try.

* Haha, we just discovered Dear Blank, Please Blank, and it’s genius. So funny!

* Similarly hilarious and worth checking out: Better Book Titles. The name is pretty self-explanatory.

* Fabsugar shows you how to wear a maxi skirt – such a fun trend for winter.

* Also maxi-skirt related Coach Handbags On sale, Glamour has a great list of Maxi Skirts That Won’t Break the Bank. ($50 and under!)

* Totally inspiring: Mike & Chris’ new lookbook (styled by a blogger!), and Free People’s Paris lookbook. J’adore!

* If you want better skin, prettier hair, or nicer nails without spending a fortune (um Coach Outlet Store, who doesn’t?), check out InStyle’s 10 Ways to Eat Your Way Gorgeous.

* Are you enrolled in one of the most desirable college majors?

* Oh, 2010. You had so many great fashion moments, yet some of your worst outfits were really, really bad.

* Anyone remember how back in September, everyone was buzzing about Tom Ford’s top-secret fashion show? You know, the one where everyone in attendance had to sign a confidentiality agreement before watching?! Well, now you can finally see the show for yourself – check out the video here!

* Yum! TopShop unveiled their new Spring lookbook, and the pieces are gorgeous, as usual.

* Okay, despite the fact that most of us aren’t even thinking about marriage right now, this NYT article on what makes a marriage work is applicable to relationships in general, totally fascinating, and very worth reading. So there.

* Also wedding-related: this stop-motion wedding video is so beautiful and creative!

* It seems like we all change cell phones as often as we switch nail colors – that is to say, a lot. But did you know our tech ADD might be hurting the environment?

* I absolutely loved Already Pretty’s Fashion Confessional post. And the comments section is really great, too. Everyone should add their confessions to the list Coach Factory Online!

* Is the fanny pack/belt purse the must-have accessory for 2011? Not sure I’m loving this one yet.

* Love this common-sense health tip from Jezebel: Eat better, not less, for a healtheir diet. Amen!

* Whether you’re familiar with ASCII art or not, Keira Rathbone’s fashion-related creations will make you happy. Even more impressive? She uses a TYPEWRITER to make them! (!!!) Insane.

* Stylelist counts down ten 2011 movies they’re excited to see. Loving all the french-themed films!

* It’s official: Blake Lively will be the new face of Chanel’s spring campaign.

* The Dos and Don’ts of Mastering the First Date, from YourTango, is great advice if you’re starting the new year off with some new people in your life.

* Wow, just wow. This video of New Year’s Eve in Dubai is So. Cool.

* Frock & Roll’s advice is great, and How to Kick 2011 Goal Butt (In a Completely Non-Violent Way!) is true to form.

* Anddd, if you don’t end up sticking to all those New Year’s resolutions, don’t worry: you’re not alone.

* So funny: Read Excerpts from Snooki’s Book Coach Factory Outlet Online, Prepare to Have Mind Blown…

* Love this idea: Shelfari is a “social network for people who love books” – you can compile wishlists, “to read” lists, and see what your friends are reading. (See also: GoodReads, a similar service!)

* Need a new beauty product to try? Check out this list of the top 10 cult skincare products.

* The Budget Babe did two great posts on the best celeb looks of 2010. See: The Best Dressy Outfits, and The Best Casual Outfits for some inspiration!
