MAC Please Me Lipstick

Please Me Lipstick is a light-medium creamy pink with subtle yellow undertones. The finish is supposed to be matte, but it has a noticeable sheen to it, so it looks more semi-matte to me. It has a matte finish and is part of the permanent range. The texture is very creamy; it’s one of MAC’s better matte formulas. Giorgio Armani #507 is a little darker. MAC Mehr is a little darker, browner. MAC Chatterbox has a stronger yellow undertone and appears a bit darker. (9, 10, 9, 8.5, 4.5, 4; A-)

Please Me Nail Lacquer is a medium pink with yellow undertones and a cream finish. It’s opaque in two coats, but it did have some slight streaking in the initial coat. I used a thicker second coat, which helped cover the majority of the streaks. MAC Angel is very close but lighter. Rescue Beauty Lounge Pepto PInk is cooler-toned. (9, 9, 9, 9, 4, 4; B+)

MAC Lipsticks are vanilla-scented but taste-free. Matte finishes like Please Me typically wear four to six hours on me Coach Outlet, with lighter shades like this one wearing around four hours. MAC’s matte formula can be really nice to work with, but sometimes they can be on the drier side (often described as a “retro matte”), but Please Me has a creamier, less dry consistency that glides on more readily. MAC Lipglasses are also vanilla-scented but taste-free. They are very sticky and have a thick, borderline-goopy consistency. If you prefer gel-like, cushion-y glosses that feel lightweight on, I don’t recommend MAC Lipglass. Because of the tackier texture, MAC Lipglasses do tend to wear a full four hours on me, with some of the darker shades lasting up to six hours (with mostly the color lingering at that point).

Please Me Lipglass is a light-medium pink with warm, yellow undertones. It yields opaque color coverage with a mostly even application and slight settling into lip lines. I couldn’t think of a dupe for this shade. The closest I could think of was MAC Splashing, which is darker, and it almost looks gray-ish in comparison. (9, 10, 9, 8.5, 4, 4; B+)

MAC Please Me Lipstick ($14.50 for 0.10 oz.) has been such a top-seller that it has now inspired a Lipglass ($14.50 for 0.17 fl. oz.) and Nail Lacquer ($16.00 for 0.34 fl. oz.) to complement it. This shade is part of the Latin America/Middle East region of the collection, so it will only be available online for North American buyers and at select Macy’s. Please Me is described as “mid-tone warm pink.”

Note: I am reviewing each “set” together. After I’ve reviewed all sixteen sets, I will do round-ups for each product type (so all lipsticks together) to deliver an overall Glossover rating. This rating is more indicative of the product type, as the rating that follows this post is an average across three totally different types of products. You can also see the individual scores listed after each product, which are listed in the same order as they are in the Glossover.

The lipgloss is just a smidgen lighter compared to the lipstick in color, but they have similar undertones. The nail lacquer also matches fairly well, though it appears to have stronger yellow undertones, so it appears warmer in comparison. When you apply the gloss on top of the lipstick, what happens is you get a slightly lighter pink–not quite as light as the gloss on its own, but it’s not as dark as the lipstick alone. The two work together well without causing unevenness or streaking.

Revlon Lollipop ColorBurst Lip Butter ($7.49 for 0.09 oz.) is a bright, fuchsia-pink with iridescent purple-fuchsia shimmer and cool, blue undertones. It’s similar to MAC Show Orchid, which is brighter. NARS Schiap is a little brighter and has no shimmer.  There’s a lovely glossy shine that’s not as high-shine as a lipgloss, but it’s just shy of it–definitely glossier than most lipsticks.  The glossiness works with the more opaque color to give lips a really full Coach Outlet Online, luminous look.

The formula is supposed to combine the feel and shine of a balm with the color of a lipstick while still being moisturizing. The color coverage is designed to be sheer to medium. Lollipop has more opaque color coverage–it’s almost full color coverage.  I know it seems counter-intuitive, but because Revlon describes the coverage as sheer to medium, and this is really closer to opaque, I took off a point.  What make Revlon’s ColorBurst Lip Butters such a popular formula is surely the way they feel on the lips; they’re slick and almost wet-like, so they glide on easily for even color application and feel comfortable when worn.  They remind me a bit of MAC’s Slimshines with less creaminess (but that’s not a bad thing, since Slimshines had a lot of slip).

With the amount of slip the formula has, this color doesn’t wear as long as I’d expect a shade this dark and fuchsia/red-based would (five to six hours)–I get around three hours of good wear and need a full reapplication after four hours.  The wear is more like a lipgloss than a traditional lipstick from the shades I’ve trialed thus far, including Lollipop.  After an application, my lips still felt soft and hydrated, though it’s not as good as a full-blown lip balm would be–it’s right where a good, moisturizing lipstick is, but I find I still need my regular lip balm after an hour or so of this product being removed/worn away.

bareMinerals The Flashback Ready Eyeshadow Duo

  • Deja Vu is a bright, metallic silver with a smooth, metallic sheen. It is similar to Inglot #448, just a touch cooler in tone.
  • Amnesia is a blackened brown-gray that’s not too dark or charcoal. It has a near matte finish. Inglot #348 is browner. It’s a bit darker than MAC Print.

Deja Vu is soft, smooth, and beautifully pigmented, while Amnesia is soft Coach Outlet, it does have a touch of dryness common to mattes. It could be a smidgen more buttery, but it’s a good matte (just doesn’t quite achieve greatness). Both shades apply well with good blendability and staying power. When worn alone, I was able to wear these for 10 hours without an eyeshadow primer. The duo itself is an interesting color combination, particularly the way the two finishes provide such a contrast. Neither shade is overly unique, but they are good shades to add to a permanent range.

Bare Escentuals bareMinerals The Flashback Eyeshadow Duo

bareMinerals The Flashback Ready Eyeshadow Duo ($20.00 for 0.10 oz.) contains two shades: Deja Vu and Amnesia. The duo will debut in October, and it’s touted as a solid eyeshadow with SeaNutritive Mineral Complex (which includes sea minerals with antioxidants, cold-pressed borage oil, caffeine, and cucumber) that delivers “anti-aging benefits for a softer, smoother, revitalized eye area.” The new solid eyeshadow is described as “creamy, silky smooth” with “seamless blendability” with “stay-true color” that can be worn alone and is long-wearing and “won’t smudge or run.”

Benefit Hervana Boxed Powder Review, Photos, Swatches

Benefit Hervana Boxed Powder
Benefit Hervana Boxed Powder

Lucky Shell is a soft, pale beige with a satiny shimmer. Divine Peach is a warm apricot-peach with soft golden shimmer. Heavenly Rose is a soft rosy peach with a satiny sheen. Berry Delight is a blue-based ppinky-plum with a satiny sheen. Together, they create a soft, warm pink with subtle peach undertones and a satiny shimmer-sheen. It’s not frosty or over-the-top, so the shimmer adds a distinct glow to the skin and doesn’t emphasize pores. The pigmentation here doesn’t impart loads of color–it’s a soft flush, which seems to be the theme of this particular powder. It has a really soft, smooth texture that sits well on the skin. It wore well for seven hours and looked a little faded around the edges after eight hours.

Chanel Pink Cloud is lighter, while MAC Stunner is more intense. Benefit Bella Bamba is much, much darker and has no peachiness. Burberry Peony is very similar but has more of a matte finish. It also reminded me of MAC Oh So Fair, though that has much more frost in its finish. Benefit Sugarbomb is much more golden with a golden sheen and less pink.

Debuting in January, Benefit Hervana Boxed Powder ($28.00 for 0.28 oz.) is described as a “soft orchid-blossom flush.” It’s made of four individual shades in a pinwheel design Coach Factory Outlet Online, though as far as a blusher goes, you really couldn’t use these shades individually as each shade is fairly small. With a small blush brush, you might be able to use two or three shades in concentration, but I recommend swirling and sweeping all the shades taken together.

It’s not too warm for cooler complexions to wear it, and I actually think it’s one of those shades that will lean a little cooler/warmer depending on the underlying skintone. For instance, my natural yellowy undertones pull out the peachiness in the product, while someone with pinker undertones may find it turns pinker on them. When I applied it to my cheeks, it also appeared peachier because of the coral lip and olive green eyeshadows I paired it with.

MAC Suntints SPF 20 Liquid Lip Balm

I’m not a fan of the Suntints. I find that they’re so sheer that they’re virtually colorless on, but the worst part is that they’re not very moisturizing. In the past Coach Outlet, they tend to lock in moisture while you’re wearing them but do not provide any real hydration after they wear away. I tested Au Rose, and it was actually drying. The texture is a bit like jelly; a little thick, glides on easily, but it gets very tacky after about ten minutes. Au Rose lasted about an hour and a half on my lips before it had worn away to the point where it was a thin layer of tackiness and some remaining shimmer.

  • Abalone is a pale light-medium pink with a cool undertone. It darkens my natural lip color a bit and adds a lot of shine. Any pink-tinged gloss without shimmer will be very similar.
  • Au Rose is a light-medium pink with gold shimmer. This is the most “pigmented” shade out of the three. It adds noticeable shimmer and a very subtle pink tint. There are numerous possible dupes, because it is a really sheer shade.
  • Sea Mist is a sheer pale beige with white shimmer. It adds glossiness and white shimmer.  Again, so many dupes available, because there aren’t any nuances to the color as there isn’t much color!

MAC Suntints SPF 20 Liquid Lip Balm ($16.00 for 0.33 fl. oz.) comes in three limited edition shades: Abalone (see-through hot pink with no pearl), Au Rose (poppy coraly pink with gold pearl), and Sea Mist (peachy nude with multi-dimensional pearl). Like the name suggests, this product is designed to be incredibly moisturizing while giving a soft tint of color.

Make Up For Ever #10 Aqua Cream

The Glossover

Aqua Creams work well on the cheeks as far as wear goes Coach Factory Outlet Online, and lower shimmer shades like #10 add color easily that also sticks around for eight hours or longer. Because it has a softer finish, it doesn’t emphasize pores, so it sits well on the skin. What I really like is that these don’t remain sticky on the cheeks, which many cream blushes do. On the lips, I find this one stains a bit, and again, because the finish has less frost in it, it is not as drying as other Aqua Creams have been for me. It’s not my first choice in lip color, because it’s not hydrating and a bit drying, but it does wear for five to six hours and leaves behind a subtle tint.

Make Up For Ever #10 Aqua Cream

Make Up For Ever #10 Aqua Cream
Make Up For Ever #10 Aqua Cream

Make Up For Ever #10 Aqua Cream ($22.00 for 0.21 oz.) is described as a “golden tangerine sheen.” It’s a vibrant orange with golden shimmer-sheen. It’s borderline retina-burning, honestly! It’s approved for use on the lips and cheeks (so not eyes). Whether it’s used more opaque or sheer, it’s a rich color and applies opaque. You would use the teeniest, tiniest bit to get a wash of color for blush or a lip tint. It has a more molten, deeper hue when layered (like the heavier swatch). OCC Banjee is lighter but still bright–it’s the only shade I could think of that came close to being a dupe. A lot of the other orange lipsticks I thought off are darker.  Maybelline Fierce & Tangy is much lighter.

Bobbi Brown Cool Party Eye Palette

Two of the six shades were less than impressive in this palette: Rockstar was a bit dry and sheer, while Onyx was extremely dry, sheer, and uneven–plus the sparkle was prone to fall out. The other four shades were good, though, and they all work together with strong, cool undertones and a smoky bent. It will work well on cooler complexions, especailly those looking for a solid smoky eye palette.

Bobbi Brown Cool Party Eye Palette ($45.00 for 0.33 oz.) consists of six eyeshadows: White (pure white), Iced Blue (pale icy blue), Rockstar (medium metallic grey), Sterling (medium silver blue), Gunmetal (dark charcoal blue), and Onyx (black sparkle). The palette has approximately $73 worth of eyeshadows inside, if you were able to purchase them individually (and with the exact same quantity; full-sized Bobbi Brown eyeshadows are typically larger when sold individually).

Bobbi Brown Cool Party Eye Palette

  • White is a cool-toned snow white that’s so cool-toned it almost reads bluish white. It has a matte finish and good color payoff; despite its starkness, it’s not chalky. It’s similar to Bare Escentuals Cheers and Inglot #373.
  • Iced Blue is a pale silvery white with a mere hint of blue. It’s more silver than it is blue. It has a metallic finish Coach Outlet, which comes off as part metallic, part frost. It has good color payoff. It’s similar to Inglot #447.
  • Rockstar is a soft, mushroomy brown with a touch of gray. It has a metallic finish that looks a bit frosted. The color payoff of this shade was dismal, though; sheer and soft–not much like it looks in the pan. NARS Grand Palais is deeper.
  • Sterling is a medium-dark gray with a subtle silver sheen and blue tone. It has a Shimmer Wash finish. It has decent color payoff but slightly dry in texture. Guerlain Les Ombres de Nuit is a bit lighter.
  • Gunmetal is a silver shimmered brown-black. It had nice color payoff and applied very smoothly. It has a Shimmer Wash finish. Estee Lauder Black Chrome is similar but not quite as dark. theBalm Inspirational is a little lighter, grayer.
  • Onyx is a mostly matte black base color with silver and multi-colored sparkle on top. It’s a brown-based black. Like many silver sparkled blacks, it is dry with uneven and sheer color payoff.
